Technical
Meeting at UGS Rosemont Office
36
UG Users and UGS Support Staff attended our Design Contest. Local UG users volunteered
to be on a Design Team and received a cash prize:
Team
A - Susan Nichol of Christiana Industries, Larry Hundley of Panduit & Robert
Bauer
Team B - Tim Grady of tech Mold Design & Mario Krezalek of Progressive Programming
Was
the contest hard? Well...check out what the "Wacky
Designer" came up with that they had to draw. Page 1 was the original
tape dispenser, page 2 was the required change...it had to look like an elephant!
You should have seen the look on the Design Teams's faces...but they met the
challenge!
As
is usual with our April Technical Meeting, we had free pizza on hand. UGS offered
door prizes of a free UG Certification Session and 4 Cubs tickets. The National
UG Users Group provided a backpack to be raffled off. A big "Thank You"
to UGS and the National UG Users Group for helping to sponsor our event.

Tour of GM Electromotive and Freeform Modeling and Data Translation Tips and
Techniques
April
4, 2000
Total
Attendance was 78. The Technical Meeting was FREE to CAUG members, $10.00 per
non-CAUG Members.
Jorge Paez of GM-EMD arranged for us to use the cafeteria and auditorium
at the Electro-Motive facility for our dinner and meeting PLUS a brief
tour of a locomotive. Dinner was pizza and sodas served in the EMD cafeteria.
|
 |
| Shashi Ramakrishna of Unigraphics Solutions TSS provided a technical
demonstration of various methods to employ Freeform Modeling Techniques
using UG v16. Notable in his presentation was his ability to try to
use more than one technique to tackle a difficult problem, and to show
the advantages and disadvantages of the methods used. |
 |
| Bobby Bishop of Prototech Engineering gave a "real-world" presentation
of how to use UG to fix data that comes into UG after a Data Translation.
His presentation got the audience discussing issues and asking questions
about how other UG users were working with imported data or how to best
export data to other systems. |
 |
| John
Manderfield handed out "Best Practice" guides documenting how UG can
better interact with other CAD data.
Download them here:

| Special thanks to
Shashi of UG Solutions
and
Bobby Bishop of Prototech
for making this technical session most rewarding to our UG users.

was London Broil or Orange Roughy. The meeting proceeded with a presentation
by Pat Driscoll and Scott Buetow from Paslode, the presentation was titled "Prototyping

We'd
like to thank Prototech Engineering for allowing us to see their facility and
